2019 EU-China NGO Twinning Program Beijing Workshop

From August 6-8, 2019 EU-China NGO Twinning program Beijing workshop was held organized by China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) , supported by Stiftung Robert Bosch and Stiftung Mercator. Participants from over 10 countries joined this workshop; In addition, in order to help more organizations understand this program better and promote exchange among them, CANGO invited more than representatives from The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, China Daily, China and Europe Cultural Center, Environmental Defense Fund and Client Earth and other organizations to join this workshop.
 
The EU-China NGO Twinning Program has been operating since 2013, during the past 6 years, there are over 130 twinners from European and Chinese NGOs participated in this program, and the topics range from renewable energy, carbon market, gender equality and environment education, etc. Experts, advisors and NGO officers have made a great contribution to this project, as well as China and European civil society organizations advancement.
 
During this 3-day workshop, CANGO cooperation with Stiftung Asienhaus and CAN Europe jointly developed various activities to facilitate twinners better understand the project, so that they will be able to benefit Chinese and European NGOs. During the first day of this workshop, Prof. Zhang Qiang from Beijing Normal University introduced the role of NGO network. On the second day, Mr. Zhao Daxing, Executive Director of CANGO, gave a presentation on “Chinese social organizations going abroad”, and with comments from Mr. Fu Jing, Managing Director of China Watch, Think tank powered by China Daily. Dr. Fabian Horst, Civil Society Ambassador Europe-China, shared a research project result of “Oversea NGO law: European experiences and perspectives”. All participants also made group discussion on SDG2030. Two panel discussions on two cross cutting issues: gender equality and climate change were organized, offered their insights on these issues. On the third day, all twinners visited low carbon exhibition hall of Friends of Nature Beijing, and participated in small garden work in groups.
