The Participatory Approach Used in 2019 CCAN Annual Meeting to Work Together on Network Development

On May 22-23, 2019, the Annual Meeting of 2019 of China Civil Climate Action Network (CCAN) was held in Chongqing, around 40 Chinese civil society organizations participanted meeting. The annual meeting was supported by Heinrich Boell Foundation, organized by CANGO and co-organized Chongqing Recycle Energy Society.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Executive Director of China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) Ms. Wang Xiangyi gave a welcome speech. First, she thanked the support from CCAN members over the past years. With their support, CCAN has been able to develop and offer a platform for Chinese civil society organizations to play a role in various contexts. Then, she briefly summarised CCAN work in the past year and offered a constructive plan for the Network’s future development. In addition, the Project Officer Ms. Zhu Zhenyan from Heinrich Boell Foundation recognized the contribution of CCAN in tackling climate change issues. Lastly, Ms. Wang Yuan from Beijing Friends of Nature introduced the evaluation mechanism and participation approach that the meeting applied for.
During the first day of meeting, Mr. Lin Jiaqiao from Rock Environment and Energy Institute (REEI) shared thoughts on 2019 CAN meeting in Costa Rica, saying that members should should work together effectively in order to move forward; also, there is a need for CAN to have an internal reform. Besides these, Mr. Lin hoped that the Chinese civil society organization would have a better cooperation with international NGOs within China. Ms. Li Xiajie, the projectc manager from CANGO discussed that CCAN should have its own newsletter and collected members opinion. During the second day of meeting, the main focus was to discuss “Chinese Story” and how to faciliate China NGOs participate in UN climate change conference, as well as other international meetings.
