Conclusion Conference of China Civic Gender Network (CCGN) Project was successfully held

On Dec. 7th 2016, the conclusion conference of CCGN Project, organized by CANGO, sub-organized by Sanya Blue Ribbon Ocean Protection Association was successfully held in Sanya, Hainan Province.
 
CCGN Project began in July 2013 and has been successfully concluded in December 2016. The development goal is to mainstream women’s development and equality through policy advocacy, capacity building, awareness raising activities and civil society network development. With support of this Project, a China Civic Gender Network (CCGN) with 14 NGO members and its Steering Committee with 8 consultants have been set up for better participation of grassroots CSOs on women’s empowerment. CCGN has formed its rudiment with certain extent of cohesion and emotional appeal and has provided a platform for members to improve their capacity and strengthen cooperation on gender mainstreaming after the three-year construction. Over the past three years, with the perfect support and cooperation of Network members and expert consultants, CANGO has carried out 94 activities in total such as gender awareness, capacity building and policy advocacy in region of Beijing, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Henan, Sichuan, Qinghai and Hainan. Published Gender Equality Practice Promotion of Chinese Social Organizations and Textbook of Gender Equality Training, bilingual training materials for Mongolian trainers, etc. All the project activities have exceeded the plan as well as achieved satisfactory results. The number of direct beneficiaries reached 4827, including policymakers and government officials from local Women and Children's Working Committee, grassroots women cadres, educators, community activists; domestic grass-roots social organization representatives of women's development work and other, etc. The gender awareness of the participants and their understanding of gender mainstreaming have been improved. Some NGOs, especial the partners of this project have improved their services provided to the beneficiaries. They have more clearly about the national policy of gender equality and knew how to design project with the gender perspective.
 
Conference invited Project Partners, Network Members, Evaluators, Representatives of Network Steering Committee, Trainers and Beneficiaries representatives, from multidimensional perspective as implementation organizations, external expert consultants and project beneficiaries of the Project to gain an overall evaluation and feedback for future work's preparation.
 
Executive Director of CANGO, Mr. Zhao Daxing pointed that gender is an important interdisciplinary issue and is related to many areas like Environmental Protection, Poverty Reduction and Health, etc. In the past two decades, CANGO has carried out numerous Projects to help poor women to get rid of poverty, promote women's participation in administration and discuss in the state affairs, protect women&children's rights. In addition, CANGO has a number of member organizations for women. Thus, the Project was designed on this basis. At present, gender inequality is in society around everyone, which should be solved within the legislation framework. He also expressed the sincere gratitude to the delegates for their support and assistance during the past three years.
 
Yang Hongping, Chief of the CANGO Project Management Department, introduced the major project activities, achievements, shortcomings and work plan of the next phase on behalf of project implementers. Subsequently, local representatives made speeches, and the project beneficiaries shared their experience, feelings and thoughts from participating in the Project.
 
Ms. Cai Lingping, represented the external evaluation team, introducing the main contents of the final evaluation report and evaluated the Project from five dimensions of Relevance, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Impact and Sustainability and gave feasible suggestions for the second phase of Project.
 
Finally, Ms. Long Jiangwen, the expert of the Steering Committee of the Network, introduced the current international development situation on gender and the latest relevant policies and regulations in China. She commented the Project from four aspects, affirming the work in cadre consciousness promotion, policy-making advocacy, capacity building work overall.
