Advocating Animal Welfare : Animal Welfare and the Belt and Road Initiative Seminar

On the morning of June 20th, 2019, Animal Welfare and the Belt and Road Initiative Seminar was held in Beijing. The seminar was jointly held by China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO) and World Animal Protection (WAP). 22 representatives from universities, research institutions, NGOs, and consulting firms attended the seminar. This seminar aims to share and discuss the research outcome of Animal Welfare and the Belt and Road Initiative, advocate relevant policies, and spread the rational and scientific idea of animal protection.
This seminar had two major sections. The first section was Animal Welfare and the Belt and Road Initiative research outcome sharing. Hosted by Mr. Zhao, Daxing, Executive Director of CANGO, three representatives gave their speeches from different aspects. Ms. Long, Jiangwen, former Standing Councilor of CANGO, talked more from the policy aspect; Prof. Liu, Jinglan from Beijing Forestry University shared her suggestions on wild animal protection; And Dr. Sun, Zhongchao from China Animal Health and Food Safety Alliance gave his speech on farm animal protection.
The second section was round table discussion. The host of this section is Dr. Huang, Haoming who is the Deputy Dean of China Global Philanthropy Institute. Three topics were mainly discussed: 1. The meaning and significance of the Green the Belt and Road Initiative; 2. The correlation between environment, animal and sustainable development; 3. The suggestions and future plans of the different stakeholders. Eight representatives gave their opinions, showing their willingness to continue promoting animal welfare.
This seminar provides an opportunity for stakeholders to share experience and exchange ideas, laying the foundation for policy advocating and science popularization in the future.
