2012 IUCN World Conservation Congress in Jeju

On Sep. 6th, 2012 IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) started its 10-day events with an official Opening Ceremony held at the International Convention Center on JejuIsland, Republic of Korea. An audience of 4,000 people representing 175 countries witnessed the opening of world’s largest and most important conservation Olympics. Mr. Lee Myung-Bak, President of the ROK, addressed the welcome speech.
 
With the theme of Nature+, WCC promoted this year’s events through various forums and the Members’ Assembly. 186 motions were voted by IUCN members for approval, as well as IUCN’s Programme of Work and Financial Pplan. Also, the new President of IUCN, 6 Chairs of Committees and Councilors of 8 regionswere elected. Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, former vice Minister for Education in China, won the position of IUCN’s President.
 
During the WCC, workshops, knowledge café, conservation campus, posters and pavilions were provided to all the registered participants from Sep. 7th to 11th. Each day of the forum was dedicated to a particular topic, including climate, food, development, people&governance and life. A special session of World Leaders Dialogues were presented with journalists, government officials, experts, CEOs and leaders from international NGOs, to debate the most strategic issues related to sustainable development.
 
Invited by IUCN as a member, CANGO sent staff member Ms. Xu Xiaoxiao to fully attend the Congress from Sep. 5th to 16th
