Workplace Diversity Workshop in Beijing

On September 9th, the “Workplace Diversity Workshop” was successfully held in Beijing, with a total of 50 participants from Chinese NGOs, multinationals and various international stakeholders. As one of the serial salons by CANGO’s “NGO-Corporate Partnership for Sustainable Development” project, the event focused on diversity and equality in workplaces for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) groups. Xu Xiaoxiao from CANGO’s project management department attended this activity.
Co-organized by Aibai, a leading advocacy organization for LGBT groups in China, this workshop had invited a lot of “big cheese” from NGOs and corporates working in the  LGBT and CSR field. Lorri Jean, CEO of the L.A. Gay&Lesbian Center gave an overview on workplace diversity development in the US. Corporate efforts in improving workplace diversity were shared by Jayzen Patria from NBC Universal, Paul Choi from Goldman Sachs and Tony Tenicela from IBM. Damien Lu, President of Aibai, introduced Chinese local LGBT culture and development, followed with a focus group discussion on how to improve workplace equality in China.
This workshop was a great opportunity not only to learn about the latest global developments and mature experiences in creating diversity in workplace, but also to build connections with other local companies and NGOs to tackle challenges and develop strategies specific to China’s cultural and social conditions.
